Sanders Rapid ToolMaker Prototype System
So maybe you could still get some support from Sanders Design, maybe not. I don’t believe that Solidscape ever produced a comparable product, so I doubt they would be of any assistance. I have ZERO documentation on this thing at the moment, so if you aren’t already familiar with the Rapid ToolMaker this may not be the one to dive in on. I cannot offer any technical assistance whatsoever, nor is any warranty offered on the purchase. If it requires repair or refurbishing it will be at your expense. I do not have the machine in my possession at the moment, so it hasn’t even been tested to power on. I don’t expect that to be a problem but I won’t know until I get it transported back to my warehouse, which may take several weeks. There was some software in a box with another part, shown in the pictures. I didn’t go through the software at length to see what was included. I am hoping that the computer rack will boot up and be ready to go in which case the software wouldn’t be an issue.
Please check back often to see if any updates have been added to the description. I was committed enough to the purchase that I took a variety of pictures when I previewed the unit, but the front plexi cover was secured in place with bands so I couldn’t open up the front for a good picture from that angle. Most likely I will add or replace a few pictures once I have it in-house, but I have a variety of other pictures available if you need a look at something from a different angle, just shoot me an email. If I have it already and you don’t hide your email address I can send it directly to you as an attachment. If I don’t have the picture you want it will have to wait until I pick it up, so please don’t be impatient and there is no need to submit multiple requests. If I don’t reply immediately it probably means I will have to get back to you when the unit is in my possession.
Please note that the professional looking picture showing the computer rack in place against the left side of the ToolMaker is in fact a promo picture of a Rapid ToolMaker, but it IS NOT the unit being sold here. I show that only for comparative purposes, and I think it is reasonably evident that the pieces shown in the other pictures are the same machine although the computer rack on mine doesn’t have a space up top for a monitor like the promo picture. Please check out this website for a discussion of Rapid Toolmaker application and capability. Also note in the next to last paragraph on that page that Sanders was working with NASA to “enhance the Rapid ToolMakerâ€. I believe this unit is in fact the same unit referred to there, as that is the source. What if anything has been done to the unit itself in the way of “enhancements†I have no way of knowing, so you should examine the pictures carefully to make sure you are getting something you can use or refurbish to suit your purpose. According to the surplus guy there, the people that turned it in said that it wasn’t quite suited to their application and thus was very lightly used before being set aside and stored. Backing up that story, the protective film that comes on sheets of plexiglass that would typically be stripped off when it goes into service, much of that is still in place on the top and the back of the main unit. Nothing conclusive, just an observation.
Depending on your location, I reserve the right to transport it myself, charging whatever freight quote I get on the BAX website. That way we know it will get there in one piece, but that is an option, not a certainty. Again, I will repeat, you are welcome to pick it up yourself in which case there would be no charge beyond the purchase price. My warehouse is easy to find and just a few miles from Interstate 64 west of Charlottesville, VA.
