G.F. Goodman Extrusion Downstream Med 1000 Servo Cutter
Increase accuracy, productivity, and return on investment with advanced extrusion downstream machinery and integrated systems from G.F. Goodman & Son
Unequaled selection and customization
Your extrusion downstream requirements are unique, as are the priorities you place on speed, accuracy, uptime, ease of use, capacity, initial cost, cost of operation, and other variables.
To optimize efficiency as defined by your application, Goodman manufactures a wider range of extrusion downstream equipment models and types, with a wider range of standard and optional accessories, than any other manufacturer:
Winders/unwinders with loop tension controls
For example, Goodman offers more types of on-demand rotary cutters than any other maker: servo, vacuum, electromagnetic, pneumatic, and hydraulic—each providing its own combination of application-specific advantages. Moreover, Goodman engineers flexibility into every machine, allowing extensive customization during assembly to optimize efficiency while preserving standard machine pricing and lead times.
Raising the bar on accuracy, speed, reliability
In 1983 Goodman introduced its exclusive Vac-Q-Torq vacuum clutch/brake actuated rotary on-demand cutter. This machine set new industry standards for cut length accuracy and cutting speed.
In addition, it allows monitoring of clutch/brake wear to allow scheduled maintenance, virtually eliminating clutch/brake failure during production runs. Replacement clutch/brake units can be delivered overnight (Continental U.S. and Puerto Rico), and installed in less than 30 minutes (no break-in period required).
Standard and custom configurations
Goodman on-demand rotary cutters and traveling saws are readily available in standard, modified, and custom configurations to satisfy the most demanding and diverse end-use requirements.
Essential differences between standard models are determined primarily by type of indexer drive employed, as outlined in the chart below.
Final selection of indexer type, equipment configuration, and options is determined by a variety of application parameters including profile size and density, speed and accuracy requirements, cost, ease of maintenance, etc. Please consult your Goodman sales technician for recommendations.

SERV-O-TORQ Servo on-demand rotary cutters
Servo on-demand rotary cutters provide exceptional accuracy when properly applied. Since they have no friction surfaces, maintenance is greatly reduced and accuracy is unaffected by wear.
Servo cutters can be higher priced than conventional indexing units, may require a higher level of technical expertise to maintain, and may be affected by environmental conditions (electrical supply variations/spikes).
VAC-U-TORQ Vacuum clutch brake on-demand rotary cutters
Vacuum clutch/brake cutters offer a higher degree of accuracy than other conventional indexing systems and are equivalent to servos in repeat accuracy specifications. The closed-loop vacuum supply provides a consistent level of negative pressure, eliminating affects of fluctuating electrical or plant air suppliers. The vacuum system excels in applications requiring high cycle rates and close cut-length tolerances.
Vacuum on-demand cutters can be more costly than electromagnetic or pneumatic cutters.
ELECTRO CUT Electro-magnetic clutch/brake cutters
Electro-magnetic clutch/brake cutters are relatively inexpensive, and their friction surfaces are field replaceable.
Electromagnetic drives are affected by changes in air temperature, heat generated by machine operation, and wear of friction surfaces resulting in lower repeatable accuracy.
ROTA STEP Pneumatic clutch/brake on-demand rotary cutters
Pneumatic clutch/brakes are moderately priced and provide greater accuracy than electromagnetic systems in certain applications. Friction surfaces are field replaceable.
Due to fluctuations in pressures and quality of plant air supplies, pneumatic clutch/brakes can be less accurate than vacuum or servo cutters.
HYDRO CUT Hydraulic clutch/brake on-demand rotary cutters
Multi-disc, fluid clutch brakes handle higher horsepower required for high torque cutting of larger, heavier extrusions.
Cutting rates are limited, but normally ample to accommodate slower line speeds of larger, heavier part extrusion.
Provide clean, square cuts of rigid and/or heavy pipe and profile.
